The Old Shop Pop-Up Gallery - Free Monthly Exhibitions

The Old Shop Pop Up Gallery is a creative space in the centre of the Historic Market Town of Hingham, Norfolk.  Formerly a Victorian general store, the space is now home to a wide range of visual, written & performing artistic activities which are overseen by owners Sue Moore & Clio Burroughs with Gallery Consultant, Lorraine Pajak.  The Gallery offers exhibition space to local and emerging artists on the second weekend of each month (excluding August) throughout the year. Each month we feature a different artist/s, championing a diverse range of styles and mediums. We support the visitor experience with a free exhibition guide, large print guide, audio descriptive guide and a virtual gallery.

Our inaugural monthly Pop-Up Gallery Exhibition at The Old Shop took place on 9-10 May 2026. You can take a virtual tour of or listen to audio descriptive guide to this exhibition below.

Exhibition now on:

Combining the works of oil painter Sophie Maloney & screen printer Sue Barnes, The Old Shop Pop-Up Gallery presents an exhibition of the contrast between town & country: city & seascape. Both artists exhibit regularly at ‘Summer at the Beach’ festival which is held at Waterbeach Barracks every August. Sue Barnes’s screen prints are inspired by architecture, exploring the negative space that is created by buildings as well as their design and dramatic lines. In contrast, Sophie Maloney works mostly with oil on canvas, creating land and seascapes inspired by the historic competition between water and land in the Fens.
